At Violin with Joy, our mission is to make violin study approachable, inspiring, and deeply rewarding for students of all ages and skill levels.

Our Teaching Philosophy

Where We Teach

Lessons take place in our Upper West Side studio just off the 1 train and in home across Manhattan (in select areas). We also offer lessons virtually worldwide. No matter the format of your lesson, we bring the same personalized care, professional training, and encouraging environment.

Dr. Joy Yamaguchi

Hi, I’m Joy! I’ve been helping students learn and love the violin for over a decade. I’ve worked with students of all ages and levels, from first-time players to conservatory-bound musicians, helping them build skills, confidence, and a love for music.

As a performer, I’ve played around the globe, and I love sharing that experience with my students; whether we’re exploring classical masterworks, contemporary pieces, or pop and video game music that makes learning fun!

Reuben Kebede

Hi, I’m Reuben — a violinist and passionate teacher based in New York City. I enjoy helping students of all levels grow in their technique, discover their unique musical voice, and build confidence as performers. Alongside teaching, I perform as first violinist of the Ivalas Quartet.

My training with Danielle Belen at the University of Michigan and chamber music studies with the Takács Quartet at the University of Colorado Boulder and The Juilliard School continue to inspire the supportive, encouraging environment I aim to create for my students.
